Robert Upstone
Robert Upstone is a well known specialist and dealer in twentieth and twenty first-century British Art. He was formerly Head of Modern British Art at the Tate, acquiring works for the nation and curating many exhibitions at museums and galleries around the world. Robert now applies the same specialist knowledge and rigour to help clients build their collections. After the Tate, Robert was a Director of The Fine Art Society in Bond Street, Britain's oldest commercial dealership, where he logged many high profile sales. In 2016 he launched his own gallery. As a valuer he has catalogued collections for, among others, The Middle Temple, Transport for London, Lincoln's Inn, The University of Cambridge, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and The Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Robert is one of the permanent members of the Government's Acceptance In Lieu Panel which presents works of art to British museums and galleries. He is writing the catalogue raisonné of Christopher Wood. Services Buying and Selling We are always interested in purchasing works from private collections or we can sell on your behalf on a commission basis. We consistently offer significantly better returns than selling at auction. Valuations We provide a confidential valuation service for the purpose of sale, purchase, probate, family division and insurance for single works or whole collections. Among others we act as specialist valuation advisors for The National Heritage Memorial Fund, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, The Art Fund and The National Trust, in addition to a number of national and regional museums.
