This is one of the drawings that Bevan made at Pont Aven in Brittany. He has rendered the intersecting planes and masses of the buildings with a subtle rhythm of shading, which sets vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines against each other to create a pleasing textural pattern, despite its monochrome form. At the centre is a large topiary bush, the cubic form and spherical finials of which introduce a further complex geometric element to the composition.
