Robert Upstone is a well known specialist dealer in Modern British art. Uniquely in the art market he spent twenty three years as a senior Tate curator, acquiring works for the nation and curating many exhibitions at museums and galleries around the world. In 2010 he became Director of The Fine Art Society, Britain's oldest commercial dealership where he logged an impressive record of sales. Since 2016 he has run his own business based in Mayfair.
Robert is one of nine permanent members of the Government's Acceptance in Lieu Panel who acquire works for the Nation in lieu of death duties.
He is writing the catalogue raisonné of the paintings of Christopher Wood.
